The theological study year "Pro Memoria" in Jerusalem

The "Pro memoria" academic year offers Catholic and Protestant students the opportunity to spend a year (August-April) in Jerusalem on an intensive German-language study program. The academic year has an annual theme and the regular lectures by German-speaking lecturers are based on this theme. The study program is supplemented by guest lectures by local speakers and an extensive excursion program for further education in archaeology, topography, politics and contemporary history of the Middle East. The focus of the course at Zion, which is completed in the immediate vicinity of Dormitio, a Benedictine abbey, is on biblical subjects, systematics, Eastern Church Studies, Jewish Studies and Islamic Studies. Studying in Jerusalem is open to theology students of all degree programs. Students of the new Bachelor's and Master's degree programs (both M.A. and M.Ed.) are also invited to apply in the B.A. phase. If possible, the fourth semester should not yet be completed. Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of Hebrew and Greek to be able to translate a biblical text of medium difficulty as well as sufficient knowledge of English. Both will be tested during a selection interview at the DAAD in Bonn.

The 50th year of theological studies in Jerusalem begins in August 2023; the registration deadline has been extended to January 30, 2023. What students can expect now presents a new introductory video. Further information can be found at https://www.studienjahr.de/!

Dormitio

Since the academic year is connected to the San Anselmo Faculty of Theology in Rome, the credits earned there are generally recognized at German universities. If you would like to find out more about the possibilities of studying in Jerusalem, please contact Prof. Dr. Christian Frevel  or visit the relevant page of the Dormitio-Abbey or the corresponding pages of the Forums Studienjahr e.V.
